Funny People Review

Photobucket

Judd Apatow is one of those directors that I really never got into. The 40 Year Old Virgin was good, but disapointed. I thought that the film itself was an good comedy, but I was expecting something great. I never got around to seeing Knocked Up, and really never cared to get around to it. Then comes along Funny People. When I first saw the trailer I was hooked, I thought this movie looked like it was going to be a great comedy that might be the first Judd Apatow film that doesn't dissapoint me. But then I saw the runtime and I started to worry. A two hour and twenty six minute comedy isn't something that is easy to pull off. But, this is expected from Judd Apatow.

The story of Funny People is what I think a great one. You see a lot of different elements of a comedians life and also the transformation of a comedian. The acting is strong and on point, Adam Sandler has a terrific performance as George Simmons, and Seth Rogen plays, what i think to be one of his best roles, as a just starting off comedian. Leslie Mann does an ok job of being the love interest of George Simmons and Eric Bana does a great job as the husband of Leslie Mann. One problem is though I feel the characters of Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman, and Aubrey Plaza to be underused and I wish they were in it more.

If you go into this film expecting just a pure funny comedy, thats not what you are going to get. You are going to get a lot of comedy but you are also going to get a lot of drama. Drama that helps the movie play out a lot more, and not play out as another comedy but as a solid comedy drama.

I feel as a writer and director that this is Judd Apatow's best film. The way the story flows and the film is directed is nearly flawless.

The ending wraps up the film well and couldn't have been done any better.

Overall I found Funny People to be a near excellent film. The problems were few but would have made this already great film even more enjoyable.

RATING:3.5/5

+Great Story
+Flowed Well
+Great Acting
-Underused Characters

Bruno Review

Photobucket
>November 3rd, 2006. Nobody knew what to expect from Sacha Baron Cohen's latest comedy in which he traveled the US as one of his characters Borat. Its reaction was positive and helped it go on to make 100 million dollars in the box office.

That was so 2006...Now here is Bruno.

While watching Bruno you will figure out quick that they are going to do whatever it takes to show that Bruno is a homosexual. Even if it means showing a five minutes sex scene in the beginning with his boyfriend. This is where you know this film is going to be an awkward film to watch.

The story is pretty basic, Bruno decides to come to America and try and become a Hollywood star. He tries about everything including making a pilot for a television show to trying to get kidnapped by terrorists. And yes I said kidnapped by terrorists.

You will notice a lot less interviews in Bruno compared to Borat. Instead Bruno focuses more on shock humor and putting people on the spot which makes the movie really funny.

One of the main problems with this film, as a guy, is I really have no intention to watch it again. While I came into the film expecting to see a couple dicks and maybe a lead up to a gay sex scene, what I got was way to much then what I thought I was going to get. I felt this movie to be too much, and that is a major problem. Maybe I should have expected that, but I didn't. And since it was too much, I really don't care if I ever see it again. Saying that doesn't make it a bad movie, it was a great comedy and got a lot of laughs. But overall it is something that I probably wont watch ever again.

Overall Bruno is a funny movie with a ton of shock comedy and scripted laughs. But it does cross the line by a mile which makes it uncomfertable and akward to watch and afterwards.

I gave it a 3/5

+Really Funny
+Interviews are hilarious
-Akward to watch
-Too much like a "gay porn"

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review

>Photobucket

Before I start my review I thought that it would be best to share my opinion about the first film. When the film was first release I did not have any want to see it. I personally thought it was going to be garbage and why people were hyped about it was beyond me. No I am not a Transformer fan. But three weeks into its run, after getting many recommendations to see it I decided to check it out. After seeing it I must say I am glad that I saw it in theaters. It was a movie that was well worth my money of seeing it on the big screen.

So then Transformers 2 is announced I know that this is going to be a must see. So how was it?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen kicks off right with action. You find out that Optimus Prime and other Transformers are part of an elite team in the US Army. We are introduced to the other Transformers and then we get to see Optimus kick some ass. At this point I was thinking that this movie is going to be awesome.

Then the movie goes downhill. Strongly downhill. We are then reintroduced to Sam's (Shia) family. We find out that he is going off to college and his mother is a wreck and the father can't wait to get him out of the house so he can make his "home theater". After some of that we are then put on the college. This is where the downhill slope continues. There is a cheap shot of comedy involving the mother and it just plays out to be stupid.

In fact, a lot of the comedy in this film just seem stupid and pointless. Personally, I don't mind comedy in action movies, but the comedy in this film just seems stupid and pointless. The diolouge also seems like it is out of place sometimes.

We are introduced to Sam's roomate Leo (Ramon Rodriguez) who runs an internet site based on proving that aliens are real. This is another character who seems to be out of place, pointless, and annoying. Towards the end of the film it ended up being everytime he was on screen, he was a pain.

But not every character was annoying, Shia LaBeouf had a solid performance along with Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson who reprise there roles from the first film. John Turturro does the same and gives the audience an enjoyable performance. So does Megan Fox...need I say more?

This is a long movie running in over two and a half hours. Concidering that there is a thin storyline this causes the film to drag on in certain areas. The only parts that feel fast are the fights between the decepticons and the autobots and anytime Megan Fox is on screen. Yes she is smoking hot in this one.

Also this is a Michael Bay film so expect plenty of explosions and CGI. Especailly the CGI Megan Fox!

The camerawork in this film is another thing that is poor. It is literally all over the place and some of the movement is unnecessary.

The ending...The most important part of a film in my opinion...The ending is a long one and seems to drag on in certain areas. But one problem I feel is that the ultimate end fight scene (cant say between who because of spoilers) is too short. I was expecting a great big five-ten minute fight what we got was a two-three. And yes there are hints at a sequel.

Overall the film is a mess. It starts off with a bang but then quickly falls off after that. Some of the performances are annoying while some are enjoyable. Also the new autobots that are introduced have an enjoyable screne presence such as The Twins. So overall this film isn't a complete loss, but it is far from a gain.

I give it a generous 2/5

+New autobots
+John Turutto
+Fight scenes
++Megan Fox!
-Jolty camera work
